Police find no threat at TJ Maxx

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is spreading the word that “no credible threat has been identified” after a social media post described an incident in the parking lot of TJ Maxx in Marquette Township “regarding a ring of men trying to abduct women and children.”

The sheriff’s office investigated the incident and identified the driver of the alleged suspect vehicle. According to the sheriff’s office, “it appears this incident was a case of mistaken perceptions into what occurred,” and no credible threat has been identified.

US 41 traffic shifts set for Monday

MARQUETTE — The traffic configuration is set to change in the Michigan Department of Transportation’s work zone on the U.S. 41/M-28 reconstruction and roundabouts project in Marquette Township.

Tentatively beginning Monday, traffic at the Marquette County Road 492/U.S. 41 intersection will shift to the north side of the highway using the north half of the new roundabout. The west entrance to Walmart will be restricted to one way (in only). Traffic will exit from Walmart at the east drive.

A similar shift at the Brickyard Road/U.S. 41 intersection is expected on Sept. 24. At that point, U.S. 41 traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction at Brickyard Road.

South Brickyard road is currently closed. Access to Best Buy is via a temporary access road.

During this phase of construction, work will continue on the south side of the highway and the south half of the new multi-use tunnel. The new traffic configuration is expected to stay in place until late October.

MDOT is reconstructing U.S. 41/M-28 between CR 492 to just west of Brickyard Road, extending the existing boulevard. The project includes replacing signalized intersections with roundabouts at Brickyard Road and at CR 492 near Walmart and Target, along with constructing indirect left-turn lanes, or Michigan Lefts. A new multi-use tunnel will be constructed beneath the highway, just west of CR 492. The investment for the road work is estimated at $8.5 million, with another $2.4 million estimated for the multi-use trail and tunnel.
