Blueberry pickers brought to safety

ISHPEMING — Two lost blueberry pickers have been recovered from a wooded area in Ely Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 10:03 p.m. Wednesday, the office, along with its Search and Rescue team, were dispatched to Ely Township for the lost pickers.

Matthew Rich, 51, and Sarah Rich, 54, both of Ishpeming, were camping in a remote campsite west of Marquette County Road 581. Matthew decided to pick blueberries before dark, became lost and failed to return to the campsite.

Sarah decided to look for her husband and also got lost in the woods. Although the couple reunited in the woods, Central Dispatch advised they stay in the location.

Search and Rescue located them via Global Positioning System coordinates provided by Central Dispatch. Search and Rescue brought both of them back to their campsite without incident.
