MARQUETTE — Locals may have noticed some new colorful banners that have found their way to Third Street in Marquette.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority in collaboration with the Marquette Board of Light and Power began to hang the banners along North Third Street Tuesday afternoon.

“This was part of the actual branding plan that we recently adopted that includes a new logo and includes some identity for Third Street and for downtown that will tie the area better together,” said Mona Lang, executive director of the MDDA.

The banners use the new logo and color scheme of green, orange and blue and the letter M, all of which are meant to reflect the many facets of Marquette and the downtown area, Lang added.

The North Third Street banners are just the first phase of the branding. Additional banners will be placed along Washington Street to Front Street. Although the banners to be hung will have a different look, overall the signage will tie together the downtown district, Lang said.

“I think it’s important in order to draw people up Third Street from downtown and to connect Third Street to downtown,” Lang said.
