Bay Cliff celebrates the Great Outdoors

BIG BAY — Each Fourth of July, Bay Cliff Health Camp sponsors an Independence Day parade in Big Bay.

The Fourth of July is a very special day for campers and staff at Bay Cliff as well as for the residents of Big Bay, according to a press release from the camp.

The parade is spectacular and draws spectators from the entire Upper Peninsula, the release states.

About 150 campers attend Bay Cliff and are joined by 130 staffers who come from all across the country. The campers receive therapy for physical, occupational, speech, hearing and vision impairments. They range in age from 3 to 17.

From the time they arrived at camp June 16, preparations for the parade began.

The campers and staffers will dress up in costumes that depict one particular aspect of the parade’s general theme “Bay Cliff Celebrates the Great Outdoors.”

This year, expect to see Bay Cliffs’ efforts to capture the great outdoors by depicting outdoor sports, picnic food, recreational vehicles, fishing and more.

The campers and counselors make their own costumes and every camper and staff member participates in the parade.

For most of the children at Bay Cliff, this will be their first opportunity to participate in a parade.

The parade begins at 3:15 p.m. and starts at the Bay Cliff Health Camp entrance. The parade will proceed along the streets of Big Bay. Organizations from the Big Bay area are invited to join in and follow the campers in the parade.

Bay Cliff invites everyone to come out to see the big parade on the Fourth of July in downtown Big Bay.
