Iron Street closure near Kirkwood

NEGAUNEE — Effective immediately, the northbound lane, sidewalk and parking areas in front of the Kirkwood Block on Iron Street in Negaunee will be closed until further notice.

The action has been taken “due to the structural instability that threatens the safety of the general public” following partial collapse of the structure on May 16, according to a press release from Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron.

“The city and its staff are following proper procedures to ensure the Kirkwood Building will no longer be a threat to the safety of the public in a timely manner,” the release states.

Lakeshore Boulevard to close

MARQUETTE — Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to through traffic Monday between East Michigan Street and East Arch Street to allow for water and sewer utility work.

The road closure will begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to last until 6 p.m. Access to businesses and residences within the closure area will be maintained. Traffic will be detoured around the road closure by means of Arch Street, Spruce Street and Hewitt Avenue.
