Public forum set for UPPCO’s plan proposal

ESCANABA — The Michigan Public Service Commission has scheduled a community forum in Escanaba Friday to provide an opportunity for area residents to offer their input on the Upper Peninsula Power Co.’s long-term service plans.

All three MPSC commissioners — Chairman Sally Talberg, Norman Saari and Daniel Scripps — will attend the Friday sessions at Bay de Noc Community College, along with MPSC staff.

Chairwoman Talberg said it is important for the MPSC to hear from U.P. residents about UPPCO’s integrated resource plan, and the event gives those served by UPPCO a chance to express their views and talk with commissioners and MPSC staff.

The forum will include presentations on UPPCO’s integrated resource plan (Case No. U-20350), which is pending before the MPSC.

Sessions will be held at 4-5:30 p.m. and 5:45-7 p.m. Friday at 952 Bays Conference Room in the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay de Noc Community College, 2001 N. Lincoln Road, Escanaba.

Formal comments by attendees will become part of the public record and a transcript of the meeting comments will be filed in the case docket. Comments can also be mailed to Executive Secretary, Michigan Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 30221, Lansing, MI 48909, or emailed to mpscedockets@michigan.gov. Please include the case number (U-20350) in correspondence.

Utility-developed integrated resource plans, which are required under the state’s energy laws, map out how companies will meet the future electric needs of their customers.
