MUNISING — A Munising Police Department officer was found at fault after a two-vehicle crash involving a patrol car and another vehicle occurred in Munising around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post.

The crash occurred on West Munising Avenue near Commercial street. The police car was traveling westbound when it pulled on to the shoulder and attempted a U-turn, driving into the path of a 2015 Chrysler minivan. The patrol vehicle collided with the minivan, which resulted in “major damage to both vehicles,” police said.

The operator of the minivan, a 52-year-old man from Walled Lake, Michigan, suffered minor injury and was treated and released from the scene. The Munising Police Department officer was uninjured and was found at fault in the crash, according to the Michigan State Police.

Names are not being released at this time and the incident remains under investigation, police said.

Michigan State Police troopers were assisted by Alger County Sheriff’s Department and Alger County Med 1 at the scene.
