Ishpeming City Council to hear from 3 candidates for city manager position

SLOWN

MARQUETTE — The Ishpeming City Council will conduct public interviews with three candidates for the city manager position during a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. today.

Councilors have been searching for a replacement for outgoing City Manager Mark Slown since the end of March. Slown’s final day with the city will be June 5.

The council will conduct the first in-person interview at 6:45 p.m. with Sean Hobbins, the current management analyst with the city of Marquette.

Hobbins holds a master’s degree in public administration, according to his online Linkedin profile, and has spent time working for multiple city governments, including Detroit and Royal Oak.

The second interview with Chocolay Township Manager Jon Kangas is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Kangas held the role of Ishpeming Department of Public Works director and city engineer until January 2018.

The final interview will be conducted via telephone at 8:30 p.m. with Kelli Truver, a former Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, city manager.

Prior to her stint as city manager, Truver was the manager of the Kingman Regional Medical Center — a nonprofit, community-owned, regional medical facility for over four years, according to her Linkedin profile.

The council will hold discussions after the interviews are complete, according to the agenda.

Lisa Bowers can be reached at 906-228-2500, ext. 242.
