Rubbish and compost site opening

MARQUETTE — The city of Marquette’s household rubbish and compost drop-off site will open Monday.

The Household Rubbish site, located at 1415 Pioneer Road, is a site for city residents paying the “solid waste” fee to dispose of household items too large for curbside pickup. The daily capacity of this site is regulated by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and once capacity is met, the site will close, without exception.

The site is opening Monday, and will be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m., as well as on the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 4 p.m.

Extra days have been added to the first two weeks to assist in spring cleaning. The site is open from 3 to 7 p.m. (or when capacity is met) on April 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, and 30, as well as May 1-2.

Regular hours will begin May 6.

The compost site, located at the same address, is opening May 4 and will be open each Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents must bring a photo ID and a current city water bill showing a “solid waste” fee payment to enter both sites.
