No injuries in Negaunee accident

NEGAUNEE — No injuries were reported in a single-vehicle accident that occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday on U.S. 41, near the intersection of Teal Lake Avenue in Negaunee.

The Negaunee City Police Department in a press release, reported that a 1990 Dodge van, driven by David Schultz of Champion, was eastbound and had just crossed the intersection when his vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a snowbank. Schultz’s vehicle rolled on its side, coming to rest in the eastbound lane.

Schultz was not injured in the accident and was able to be extricated through the windshield opening of his van.

He was found at fault in the crash and it remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Negaunee Fire Department, Michigan State Police, UP Health System EMS and Antila’s Wrecker Service.

Altamont work to begin Monday

MARQUETTE — Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Altamont Street between McMillan Street and Blemhuber Avenue in Marquette will be closed to through traffic for reconstruction work. This is the first of two phases.

This phase is expected to last four weeks. The Altamont Street work will detour traffic to Fisher Street, Champion Street and Blemhuber Avenue.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signs. A phasing schematic can be accessed at the Marquette Engineering Division website under the Altamont Street Reconstruction Project link at www.marquettemi.gov. Oberstar, Inc. is the general contractor for this project.

Third Street reconstruction starting

MARQUETTE — Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Third Street between Baraga Avenue and Rock Street in Marquette will be closed to through traffic for reconstruction work. This is the first of two phases, and this part is expected to last four weeks.

The Third Street work will detour traffic to Baraga Avenue, Fourth Street and Rock Street. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing. A phasing schematic can be accessed at the city of Marquette Engineering Division website under the Third Street Reconstruction Project link at www.marquettemi.gov. Oberstar, Inc. is the general contractor for this project.
