Rain, ice lead to slippery road conditions

MARQUETTE — Cooper Lake Road and Deer Lake Road in Ishpeming Township were both “unofficially closed” this morning as “numerous vehicles” became stuck on the roads due to slippery conditions, Marquette County Central Dispatch officials said.

“All the side roads are really bad, it’s the nature of the beast with rain,” said Scott Mann, dispatch supervisor at Marquette County Central Dispatch.

Mann said this morning that crews were working on Cooper Lake Road and Deer Lake Road to: “A., get some sand on the roads; and B., get some vehicles out of the snow banks.”

As of 8:30 a.m., Mann said “Cooper Lake Road should be taken care of” because a sander had backed down the entire length of the road. He said the sander was currently on Deer Lake Road.

“Now the sander is backing up Deer Lake Road to get to where the hill is that they’re having issues at; that’s the only way the sander can get in there to have traction,” Mann said.

He expected the situation on Deer Lake Road “should not be an issue any more” by around 9:30 a.m.
