Lifeguard training scheduled

MARQUETTE — This year, the Marquette City Fire Department is partnering with Northern Michigan University to provide waterfront lifeguard training.

All Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Certification/Re-certification classes will be conducted through NMU and will be held at the PEIF pool. This certification is required to be able to serve as a waterfront lifeguard in the city of Marquette.

Lifeguards hired by the city for the 2019 summer season and complete the season in good standing will have their NMU certification course fees reimbursed.

Two certification class sessions remain:

≤ Class 1: April 5, 6, 7, 13, 14 (Friday 5-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday noon-6 p.m.)

≤ Class 2: April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 (from 6-9 p.m. each date)

The lifeguard re-certification course will be offered in May with dates to be announced.
