Minor injuries in Chocolay Township crash

First responders are at the scene of a two-vehicle crash that took place around 10:45 a.m. Monday at U.S. 41 and Silver Creek Road in Chocolay Township. According to Chocolay Township Police, a southbound white Ford panel van, driven by a L’Anse man, ran into the side of a vehicle entering U.S. 41 from Silver Creek Road. The vehicle entering the highway, a black Ford passenger car, was driven by a Lansing female, an employee with the state of Michigan. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the southbound van ran a red light at the intersection. The driver, who was uninjured, received a citation. The female driver was trapped in her vehicle due to damage from the crash, with the Chocolay Township Fire Department using the jaws of life to extricate her. She was transported to UP Health System-Marquette for what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. (Journal photo by Christie Bleck)
