Michigan Ice Fest starts Wednesday

MUNISING — The 2019 Michigan Ice Fest will be held in Munising this week, with events taking place Wednesday through Sunday.

Ice Fest headquarters is located at the Munising Community Center, 101 E. Chocolay St., where participants should go to pick up registration materials, check out and return demo equipment, and meet for all of the classes. Slideshows will be held in the Mather Auditorium, 411 Elm Ave.

Online registration is closed, but registration will be available at the headquarters for $75.

Every night after the presentations and films are over, there will be after parties at one off the local bars. The headquarters and store will still be open during the parties.

The following is a list of events throughout the week:

Wednesday:

7 a.m. – Backcountry classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

9 a.m. – All classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

10 a.m. – Demos available at Community Center

6 p.m. – All demo gear must be returned at Community Center

7 p.m. – Viewing of the film “Mountain of Storms” at Mather Auditorium

8 p.m. – Climber’s after party at Shooter’s Brew Pub, 408 Mills St.

Thursday:

7 a.m. – Backcountry classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

8 a.m. – Wave #1 classes meeting for gear pick-up

8:30 a.m. – Wave #2 classes meet for gear pick-up

10 a.m. – Demos available at Community Center

1 p.m. Half day PM classes meeting at Community Center

5 p.m. – Slideshow of Kentucky ice with Mike Wilkinson

6 p.m. – All demo gear must be returned at Community Center

7 p.m. – A slideshow by Nate and Sarah Smith, presentation is sponsored by CAMP, at Mather Auditorium

8 p.m. – A slideshow by Andres Marin, presentation sponsored by Scarpa, at Mather Auditorium

9 p.m. – Guidebook release party with free beer provided by the Ore Dock Brewing Co. at 387 Restaurant and Beer Parlor, 400 Cedar St.

Friday:

7 a.m. – Backcountry classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

8 a.m. – Wave #1 classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

8:30 a.m. – Wave #2 classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

9 a.m. – Wave #3 classes meet for gear pick-up at Community Center

9:30 a.m. – Demos available at Community Center

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Walk-up climbing at the Curtains Demo Area

1 p.m. – Half day PM classes meet at Community Center

4 p.m. – Patagonia Provisions cooking demo with Brittany Griffith, which is sponsored by Patagonia, at Community Center

6 p.m. – Enormocast Live! at Mather Auditorium

7 p.m. – Slideshow by Tim Emmett, presentation sponsored by Mountain Hardwear, at Mather Auditorium

8 p.m. – Slideshow by Barry Blanchard, presentation sponsored by Patagonia, at Mather Auditorium

9 p.m. – Poster signing at Community Center

9 p.m. – Street Party at East Channel Brewery, 209 Maple St.
