MUNISING–One woman was injured as the result of an explosion on Indiantown Road in Munising Township on Friday.

The woman was the lone occupant in a structure, which “had been totally disintegrated” as a result of the explosion, which occurred at 1 p.m., according to an Alger County Sheriff’s Office press release.

“Emergency Responders located the female occupant lying underneath debris,” the release states. “The patient was conscious and alert.”

She was extricated from the scene and transported to UP Health Systems-Marquette by Alger County EMS, the release states.

The woman’s name is being withheld until proper family notifications can be made, officials say.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Alger County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Alger County EMS, Munising Township Fire Department and the City of Munising Fire Department.
