MARQUETTE — The film streaming service Kanopy is now available to Peter White Public Library patrons.

Library cardholders can access up to four movies a month by visiting peterwhite.kanopy.com. A library barcode and an email address is needed to sign up for the service. Patrons have 72-hours to watch a film once they start streaming.

“The decision to partner with Kanopy was made for a few of reasons,” Samantha Ashby, department head of Adult Services at Peter White Public Library, wrote in an email. “First, patrons expressed a lot of interest in the service. Second, we wanted to offer audiovisual content, for all ages, free of an extra charge. As a community with a strong focus on education and the arts, we believe quality film and television is something everyone should have access to. Lastly, Kanopy’s content (of which they have a lot), closely aligns with our mission.”

Ashby’s email boasts that Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema with collections from Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS and thousands of independent filmmakers.

Films can be streamed from a variety of devices including computers, televisions and mobile devices by downloading the Kanopy app for IOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku. Ashby recommends patrons watch any film from the Criterion Collection on Kanopy.
