MARQUETTE — Lilian Kallir, concert pianist, will perform in a student assembly program on Friday at 10 a.m. in Kaye Auditorium, Northern Michigan College. An invitation is extended to the community to hear Miss Kallir, considered one of America’s youngest and most highly regarded pianists. Born in Prague, Austria, Miss Kallir has been acclaimed by newspapers and critics at home and abroad as a highly gifted artist and accomplished pianist. A prodigy at the age of 10, she was brought to the U.S. where she pursued her studies, subsequently winning the National Music League Award at 16, the American Artists Award at 17 and made a sensational town hall debut. Having appeared as a soloist with major orchestras both in the United States and Europe, Miss Kallir has taken her audiences by storm everywhere. After a single performance in Athens, she was “commanded” to play to the King and Queen of Greece. Selected as the only woman pianist to participate in the first Young Artists Series sponsored by the Metropolitan Museum of New York, Miss Kallier’s performance was described as prize-winning playing by the New York Herald Tribune.
