1 man injured, 1 jailed after accident

MARQUETTE — One man was hospitalized and one man was arrested and jailed after a vehicle versus pedestrian accident that occurred in Gwinn around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred when a box truck driven by a 44-year-old Gladstone man was backing into a parking space in front of a residence on Eagle Street, striking a 58-year-old Gwinn man who was standing behind the truck guiding it, according to police.

The impact of the truck caused the Gwinn man to be pinned against a small passenger car, police said. He was transported to UPHS – Marquette and was considered to be in stable condition.

The driver of the truck was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and was lodged at the Marquette County Jail, according to police.

Police said the incident remains under investigation at this time.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Skandia/West Branch First Responders and Fire Department.
