Part of McClellan Avenue to close

MARQUETTE — Beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, McClellan Avenue, from U.S. 41 to Washington Street in Marquette, will be closed while Oberstar Inc. works to extend storm sewer infrastructure to the west side of McClellan Avenue. This is a continuation of the final phase of the Marquette Hospital Transportation Improvements Project. The widening of McClellan will provide a designated left-turn lane between Washington Street and a point south of the Public Service Garage entrance. In addition, a permanent island will be constructed on Baraga Avenue east of the McClellan Avenue intersection to prohibit any left turns onto McClellan Avenue.

This work is expected to last one day.

Afterward, the remainder of the work will be completed by use of lane closures, traffic lane shifts and flag control, and will influence traffic traveling on U.S. 41, McClellan Avenue north and south of Washington Street, McClellan Avenue north and south of U.S. 41, Washington Street east and west of McClellan Avenue, and Baraga Avenue east and west of McClellan Avenue. The work is expected to last until the end of September.

City officials ask the public to use caution and follow all warning signs, lane shifts, detour routes and other traffic control measures.
