Body found in Chain Lake ID’d

MARQUETTE — Police have identified the body of the man who was found floating in Chain Lake near St. Ignace in Mackinac County on Monday and say no foul play is suspected in his death, according to a press release from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was identified as David John McFarlane, 47, of St. Ignace after an autopsy was performed in Grand Rapids and fingerprints were used to confirm his identify, according to police.

“Fingerprints were difficult to obtain but a useable print enabled the crime lab to confirm the identify of the person,” the release states.

According to police, McFarlane’s body, which was discovered by kayakers at approximately 3 p.m. Monday, appeared to have been in the water for several days.

Police say the circumstances surrounding McFarlane’s death are still under investigation.

“Although foul play is not suspected, deputies have received several tips and are continuing to track down all leads to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” the release states.

The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office asks parties who have any information on the incident or who saw or talked to McFarlane on Thursday, Friday or Saturday to call the Mackinac County Sheriff’s tip line at 906-643-1165.
