NEGAUNEE — Marci Matlock, a professional basketmaker and wheat-weaver, will demonstrate the art of wheat-weaving at 1:30 p.m. July 7 in the Negaunee Public Library. Matlock received an honorable mention in the 1988 “Women in Art” exhibit at the Depot Gallery in Negaunee. She has been working with basketry for three years, owns Countryside Basketry in Chatham, and teaches classes in basketmaking and wheat-weaving. Her demonstration is sponsored by Friends of the Library during the annual Pioneer Days.

60 years ago

ISHPEMING — The city council will meet in a special session for the purpose, according to reliable sources, of appointing Thomas R. McNabb, administrative assistant to the Marquette city manager and planning engineer, as Ishpeming’s new city manager. NcNabb was born in the Ishpeming Hospital in 1927, attended Northern Michigan College in 1946-47 and received a B.A. degree in public administration (city management) from the University of Michigan in 1950. He is married and has two children.
