2-vehicle crash injures woman

MARQUETTE — A woman was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries Thursday after a two-vehicle personal injury crash on U.S. 41 in Marquette Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, which occurred near Northwoods Road at 9:57 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release.

Officials said Sarah Hoffman, 27, of Skandia was westbound on U.S. 41, driving a 2009 Volkswagen van when a 2005 Buick passenger car driven by David Lane, 62, of Harvey was turning eastbound onto U.S. 41 from the Gordon Foods Services driveway, entering Hoffman’s path of travel.

Hoffman swerved to avoid striking the Buick but was unable to avoid the collision. The two vehicles collided and Hoffman’s vehicle rolled over into the ditch on the highway’s north side.

Hoffman was treated by EMS personnel from the Marquette Township Fire Department and was then transported to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Lane was uninjured in the crash and was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

Hoffman’s vehicle was “extensively damaged in the crash” and was towed from the scene of the accident.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police, Marquette Township Fire Department and Marquette Detailing Towing Service.
