Marquette Breakfast Rotary awards $25,000 in grants

MARQUETTE — Marquette Breakfast Rotary recently announced it awarded $25,000 in grant funding to 28 local organizations for programs aimed at supporting area youth.

Grant awards this year range from $350 to $2,000, according to a press release from the rotary.

The Marquette Breakfast Rotary’s grant cycle is made possible through proceeds generated by its annual Fishboil fundraiser, held each year in June. This year’s Fishboil will take place June 16. Through sponsorships, ticket sales and a live silent auction, the club is able to raise substantial funds to be able to support the yearly grant cycle, the press release states.

“Marquette Breakfast Rotary has a strong youth focus; it’s our mission and our philosophy to continue to support organizations that enhance and benefit youth in our community and internationally,” Katie Koch, president of the Rotary, said in the release. “It’s amazing to see the many organizations that have great projects out there, and we’re so happy to be able to support them.”

This year’s grant recipients include: Marquette Senior High School We the People; American Association for University Women STEM Program; Marquette-Alger Young Authors; Superior String Alliance; STAR Children’s Bereavement Services; Girls on the Run Upper Peninsula; Peter White Public Library Family Reading Time; Upper Peninsula Luge Club; Bay Lakes Council Boy Scouts of America; Marquette Alger Resolution Service; Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum; Just Believe #1; Lake Superior Theatre; YMCA of Marquette County; 8-18 Media; Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter; Cat Packs; Silver Creek Church; the Women’s Center; North Star Academy Robogators; National Alliance on Mental Illness; Marquette Little League; Start the Cycle Bike Team; Lake Superior Village & Family Center; Marquette Senior High School Functional Skills Program; Camp New Day Upper Peninsula; Gwinn Middle School; and MooseWood Nature Center.

Since the Fishboil fundraiser began in 1992, more than $350,000 has been donated back to the community by Marquette Breakfast Rotary, the release states.

“We’re thrilled to be able to support so many great organizations through our annual grant cycle,” Koch said. “As we continue to build upon our fundraising efforts, we will explore additional grant cycles and opportunities for matching grants through our Rotary district.”
