IHS musical set for this weekend
ISHPEMING — “Once on This Island” will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in Ishpeming High School’s Peterson Auditorium.
Under the direction of Denise Clark, musical direction Sheila Grazulis and choreographer Brianna Maki, the musical will be performed by 30 students on stage. More than half the cast saw the show performed on Broadway April 14.
Music Theatre International describes the show, “From the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (‘Seussical,’ ‘Ragtime’), comes the Olivier Award-winning ‘Once on This Island.’ This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, ‘The Little Mermaid,’ garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.”
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the door 30 minutes before curtain.
“Celebrate storytelling with this rousing Calypso-flavored tale of one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice.”
