Chocolay Township Board to consider GAD contract extension

MARQUETTE –The Chocolay Township Board will consider extending an existing solid waste collection contract with Great American Disposal during its regular meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Chocolay Township Hall.

According to a memorandum from Public Works Foreman Brad Johnson to the board, the existing three-year contract with GAD expires on June 30.

Johnson is proposing an extension of the current contract until June 30, 2019.

Johnson said the a contract extension with GAD would save the township from soliciting new bids prior to the outcome of a county-wide millage rate increase proposed by the Marquette County Solid Waste Authority and a bill in the legislature which addresses “financial insurances for landfills.”

The board will also consider recommendations from the Personnel Committee to revise the job description and wages for the Chocolay Township Police Department administrative assistant and reinstate the township administrative assistant from a 25-hour-per-week position to a 40-hour-per-week position.

The agenda also includes a first reading of a proposed noise ordinance, and the first reading of a text amendment governing a proposed mixed use overlay district.

The proposed mixed-use overlay district will permit a mix of residential and commercial uses along a designated corridor from the Welcome Center on U.S. 41 South to the intersection of U.S. 41 South and M-28, extending approximately 4/10 of a mile east and 1/5 of a mile south from the same intersection. The corridor will include a portion of the northern section of Cherry Creek Road.
