MARQUETTE — Who to believe? That was the question asked by a young man toward the end of Thursday night’s debate between counterculture hero Abbie Hoffman and establishment heavy G. Gordon Liddy. By that time, however, the query was more rhetorical than probing, as most in the overflow crowd at Northern Michigan University’s Bottum Center seemed to have declared their allegiance long before shelling out the $3 admission fee. Nevertheless, the champions of disparate political causes provided intense and sometimes comical defenses of their views.
