Shots fired at Marquette residence

MARQUETTE — Michigan State Police investigated a report of gunshots at about 8 p.m. Tuesday in Marquette Township.

Troopers from the MSP Negaunee Post were dispatched at that time to a reported domestic dispute at a residence along Morgan Meadows Road. Initial information gathered during the call to 911 indicated someone had been shot during the dispute.

Troopers and deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody without incident.

It was learned during the investigation that two warning shots were fired during the incident but no one was injured. The suspect was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on charges pending review by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

UP Health System-Marquette was on standby near the residence until troopers confirmed no one was injured.

Critical need for blood across U.P.

MARQUETTE — The U.P. Regional Blood Center across the Upper Peninsula is experiencing a critical need for all blood types.

The center has branches in Marquette, Iron Mountain, Escanaba, Hancock and Sault Ste. Marie. Check its website at www.mgh.org/blood for hours at all locations.

Applicants for United Way campaign

MARQUETTE — Marquette County nonprofit agencies and organizations wishing to be part of the fall 2018 United Way campaign have until Jan. 22 to apply.

Only 501(c)3 health and human service organizations serving Marquette County are eligible. Agencies applying must provide services related to identified need areas in our community such as basic needs, youth programs, medical assistance/ health care programs, and elderly citizens and adults with disabilities.

Applications will automatically be emailed to current member agencies on Monday, when they will be available to other organizations that wish to apply. They may be obtained by contacting the United Way of Marquette County office at 226-8171. Email requests can be sent to unitedway@uwmqt.org.

United Way is located in Suite 26 at the Peninsula Medical Center, 1414 W. Fair Ave., Marquette.
