5-year recreation plan discussed

MARQUETTE — The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority has scheduled a public hearing on the adoption of their Five-Year Recreation Plan at its next meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Country Inn and Suites, Marquette.

A draft of the Recreation Plan has been available for public inspection at the Ishpeming Carnegie Library, the Negaunee Public Library, and the Peter White Public Library since Dec. 15. The public can provide comments through email, mail or by attending the public hearing.

The five-year plan provide a five-year map for priorities of building, managing, maintaining and interpreting along the 47-mile trail. The largest plans include upgrading trail surfaces, more parking and restrooms, lighting, trailhead upgrades, and interpreting significant structures and sites.

Member communities of the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority include the townships of Chocolay, Marquette, Negaunee, Tilden and Republic plus the cities of Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming.
