MARQUETTE — Two people were injured in a car accident on Friday in Houghton County.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s office responded to a two-car personal injury crash at approximately 10 a.m. on U.S. 41 near Waylene Street in Portage Township, according to a HCSO release.

A vehicle driven by a 78-year-old male subject from L’Anse was west-bound on U.S. 41 and attempted to make a left turn onto Waylene Street, the release states.

The driver did not see oncoming traffic and turned into the path of an east-bound vehicle driven by a 64-year-old subject from Hancock.

According to the release both drivers were transported by Mercy Ambulance to U.P. Health System – Portage for treatment of their injuries. Assisting at the scene were officers from Michigan Tech University Public Safety and City of Houghton Police Department.
