MARQUETTE — A number of reported tornado sightings highlighted a weekend of volatile weather in the central and eastern Upper Peninsula. No injuries were reported, but twisters near Calumet and Iron Mountain Saturday did some damage to buildings, and knocked down numerous trees and power lines. A pair of tornadoes near Piatt Lake and DeTour in Chippewa County Saturday and Sunday did extensive property damage, a Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said this morning. No one was injured. There were two unsubstantiated reports of tornadoes near Marquette Saturday, said Marvin Shimp, official in charge of the National Weather Service station in Negaunee. The funnel was reportedly sighted about 25 miles west of Marquette.
