No injuries in 3-car crash

MARQUETTE — No injuries were reported in a three-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday afternoon on U.S. 41 in Negaunee Township just east of Pond Road.

Around 12:31 p.m., Katherine HoHolik’s vehicle was rear-ended by a 2003 Honda Pilot driven by 19-year-old Champion resident Gavin Ackland, according to a Michigan State Police press release.

While traveling west on the inside lane, HoHolik, 66, of Negaunee, came to a stop due to the lane being partially blocked by a small trailer being towed by Rodney Arnold, 54, of Negaunee. Police said Arnold’s 1996 GMC truck was in the designated turn lane as he waited to travel east.

As a result of Ackland colliding with HoHolik, her 2013 Nissan Altima was pushed across the eastbound lanes of U.S. 41 and came to rest on the south side of the highway.

Ackland was cited for traveling too fast for conditions.

Assisting the state police on scene were its motor carrier division, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, UP Health System and the Negaunee Township Fire Department.
