Superiorland Yesterdays

MARQUETTE — Receiving President Academic Fitness awards during an awards ceremony at Whitman School were presidential academic scholars, Jack Campbell, Adam Bjork, Seth Markantony, Joshua Scheys, Shayna Ostwald and Tracy Svanda. To qualify for the award, students attained scores at or above the 80th percentile in reading, language, math, social studies and science on a nationally recognized standardized achievement test, as well as maintained a B-plus or better average in all six academic subjects during their fourth and fifth-grade years in school.

60 years ago

ISHPEMING — The first record released by the Hiawatha Ramblers is now available to the public. The Ramblers are well known for their appearances at the Venice Nite Club and other spots, as well as their WDMJ-TV appearances.

The group recorded “The Michigan Waltz” and “The Raindrop Polka” in their first waxing.

The group is an instrumental quartet headed by Ray Adamini and featuring vocalist-pantomime performer Al “Moe” Brown.
