MARQUETTE – Tim Larson, innkeeper and general manager, and Ramada owner Harlan Larson invite the public to tour The Ramada East, the latest addition to The Ramada Inn of Marquette. The recently-completed project added 28 rooms to the hotel, bringing the total number of available units to 115. An open house will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. The addition features spacious rooms designed to meet the needs of traveling professionals and families requiring more space. Two luxury suites cater to those looking for a special atmosphere. The project also brought a new look to the corner of Washington and Fifth streets, with landscaping recently being completed.

NEGAUNEE – Merchants and children were warned today by Police Chief Arne Pynnonen that sale or setting off of fireworks are prohibited by Michigan laws, and violators are subject to arrest. Pynnonen issued his warning following several complaints received by the department that youngsters were setting off fireworks, particularly torpedoes. “We have received reports of children setting off torpedoes, which are exploded by throwing them against any hard object and from motorists who have had the objects thrown against their cars,” he said. “In the latter case, the explosion leaves a circular brown spot which damages the finish on the vehicle.”
