Remains found in Ironwood home

IRONWOOD — Ironwood public safety officers at about 4 p.m. Monday responded to a report of human remains in a home due for demolition in the city.

City inspectors were inspecting the home prior to demolition when they found the deceased individual.

While the investigation is ongoing, it appears the individual had been deceased for some time and perhaps was the homeowner. Identification of the remains is pending.

Beacon Ambulance and the Gogebic County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted at the scene.

While no foul play is suspected, the incident remains under investigation by the Ironwood Public Safety Department and the Examiner’s Office. No further information is being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
