2 injured in Sands car crash

MARQUETTE — Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident in Sands Township Tuesday evening, according to a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff deputies responded at around 5:45 p.m. to the crash, which occurred on County Road 480 about a mile and a half west of Cherry Creek Road.

Dale Vadnais, 59, of Marquette, driving a 2005 Pontiac Montana minivan, was turning left off of CR 480 into a private drive.

A second vehicle, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Patricia Joyal, 52, of Palmer, had stopped behind the minivan waiting for it to turn.

After the van made the left turn and Joyal had started again to proceed, she was hit from behind by a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 26-year-old Tyler Leaf of Marquette.

Leaf and Joyal were both transported to UP Health Systems-Marquette and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

UPHP Regional Marketing Director Victor Harrington said there was no condition to report for those individuals and declined to comment further.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, according to the release. Leaf was cited for speeding.
