Residence burns in Thanksgiving fire

SANDS TOWNSHIP — Thanksgiving night saw a house fire in Sands Township, with the house being claimed a total loss. Three people were injured in the blaze.

At 11:15 p.m., Marquette County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residential fire in Sands Township with occupants possibly trapped inside the house. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed that all occupants were outside the residence and all three were taken by ambulance to UP Health System-Marquette for injuries sustained in the fire.

The injured residents were a mother and two sons. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Sands Township Fire Department, the Forsyth Township Fire Department, UPHS EMS, Sands Township EMS, Rescue 131, Marquette Board of Light and Power, Semco Energy and the Marquette County Road Commission, coordinated by Marquette County Central Dispatch.
