Master plan update set

By Journal Staff

MARQUETTE — The city of Marquette Planning Commission expects to hear new information and themes gathered during the first phase of its Master Plan Project.

Officials say the meeting is the next step in developing the city’s master plan, which collects data from residents to help city government determine where it should allocate its resources, funds and land usage for the next four years.

The planning commission meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday in commision chambers at Marquette City Hall.

The meeting comes after a February open house event at Northern Michigan University where the city unveiled data it had gathered during its initial round of public surveys.

The feedback in that first survey revealed that affordable housing, protection of natural resources and assets and public transportation were among the main topics that residents that filled out the survey were interested in.
