Downtown Marquette celebrates Black Friday and Small Business Saturday

Rachel Ellenbecker, owner of Knots in the Woods, arranges her handmade crochet and knit wear during the Winter OutBack Art Fair on Friday. “I mainly make scarves and hats, but I make a few coasters, too,” said Ellenbecker. Barb Gero, of Negaunee, threads a plastic canvas to make a puppy dog door stop during the Winter OutBack Art Fair Friday. “I’ve been a vendor at this show for a few years now. I agree it is important to shop locally and support local crafters,” Gero said. The fair continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Masonic Center at 128 W. Washington St. in Marquette. Abigail Rainey and Booker Rainey, 4, support local businesses by shopping downtown Marquette on Black Friday. “We’ve been having a lot of fun exploring and shopping downtown today,” Abigail Rainey said. Today is Small Business Saturday and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority encourages shoppers to come out and support local small businesses. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also declared today as Small Business Saturday in Michigan and urges Michiganders to buy locally today and throughout the year to support Michigan’s small businesses.
