Man arrested for alleged break-in, assault at Skandia home

SKANDIA — Police are investigating a recent home invasion in Skandia Township in which an alleged assault took place.

The Michigan State Police reported that on June 11, troopers from the Negaunee Post were called to a residence on Carlshend Road in the township for a report of a home invasion at a private residence.

After an in-depth investigation, troopers and detectives determined that Derrek McMaster, 35, of Skandia had allegedly broken into the residence and assaulted occupants inside the home.

McMaster was arrested and charged with home invasion, unlawful imprisonment and several weapons-related charges. He was arraigned in the 96th District Court in Marquette.

At the time of the incident, the residence was occupied by an adult female and two children. No physical injuries resulted during this incident, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
