MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula’s two representatives serving on the Michigan Natural Resources Commission will answer viewer questions live Thursday night on “Ask the DNR,” broadcast on WNMU-TV13.

Commissioners J.R. Richardson of Ontonagon and Dave Nyberg of Skandia will join DNR panelists and host Mike Settles for the hour-long program, which will air live at 8 p.m. Thursday. The program will be available later online, where WNMU archives past shows.

The NRC is a seven-member panel appointed by the governor as the rule-making body for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

“This is a fantastic opportunity,” said John Pepin, DNR deputy public information officer, in a news release. “Viewers will be able to find out what they want to know directly from the region’s representatives making decisions on all types of important natural resource issues in Michigan.”

The NRC has the exclusive authority to regulate the taking of game and sportfish, and is authorized to designate game species and authorize the establishment of the first open season for animals.

Karen Sexton, DNR wildlife biologist in Escanaba; George Madison, DNR fisheries manager for the Western Lake Superior Management Unit; and Sgt. Marc Pomroy, who supervises conservation officers in Dickinson, Iron and Gogebic counties, will round out the panel participants.

The group will likely field questions about spring-related recreation activities, including the April 24 trout season opener and boating and off-road vehicle operation, though the discussion is typically wide ranging, based on viewer questions.
