Ishpeming City Council to consider special events

ISHPEMING — U.P. Cityfest is among several special event applications that will be taken under consideration by the Ishpeming City Council during its meeting at 7 tonight.

The city of Ishpeming is the third municipality that has been approached by organizers for the proposed nonprofit religious event. Lifelight Communications Inc., the entity organizing the event, previously attempted to obtain permits from the city of Marquette and Marquette Township but was not successful.

If approved, the event would take place from 2 to 9 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.

A city council agenda supplement details a safety plan for the event, which included maintaining proper separation of family groups, rapid cleansing of surfaces that could transfer the novel coronavirus and a mask requirement when there is a potential that two people may not be able to maintain a 6-foot distance.

At the meeting, councilors also will discuss a possible moratorium on large gatherings.

In addition, the council will consider a GEI Consultants proposal for engineering services for the replacement of the Park Street Lift Station, as well as Bell Hospital Pump Station improvements.
