MARQUETTE — For those who are looking for a spooky weekend activity, the MooseWood Nature Center is celebrating 20 years of frights and delights this weekend with its annual Haunted Bog Walk fundraiser.

The Haunted Bog Walk will be held at Presque Isle Park from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with tickets available starting at 6 p.m. both evenings at the MooseWood Nature Center.

It’s the nonprofit’s biggest fundraiser, said Erik Johnson of the MooseWood Nature Center Board of Directors.

“We live off of donations,” Johnson said, noting the annual event has raised thousands of dollars to support the center’s operations, programming, care for its animals and more.

Those who dare will be led on a 20-minute tour through the Presque Isle Bog Walk, which will be transformed into the Haunted Bog Walk those evenings, complete with “various sights, sounds and frights,” organizers said.

“Your wits will be tested as you encounter ghouls, ghosts, spirits and other scary creatures of the night,” program information on the center’s website states. “If you are lucky, you and your companions will live and tell the tale of the Haunted Halloween Bog Walk.”

It’s important to recognize, Johnson said, that the event is not intended for very young children, and it’s advisable to check in with a child to determine their comfort level at the event, as it will be dark and involve some scares.

Tickets are $5 for children 12 and younger and $7 for adults, with cash or check accepted.

The nature center is grateful for the event’s sponsors, as well as the many volunteers who made the event possible, Johnson said.
