The Mining Journal prepares to debut new Weekend Edition

MARQUETTE — Saturday, Sept. 7, marks the next chapter for The Mining Journal, as readers will experience our Weekend Edition featuring the best of Marquette County.

Since its first edition more than 150 years ago, The Mining Journal has been telling the story of Marquette and the surrounding region, covering the news, society happenings and sporting events that matter most to its readers both in print and, in recent years also online at www.miningjournal.net.

This commitment to the local community also includes good stories on people you know who are doing interesting things, as well as principled leadership on local and regional issues on our editorial page.

The Weekend Edition will build on that commitment. By combining all of your favorite features from Saturday’s and Sunday’s editions into one day, and by reporting on the issues that matter the most to you, along with more local content from readers through Letters to the Editor and guest columnist submissions, we will provide an edition full of news, sports and lifestyles content.

“We are very excited to showcase our Weekend Edition, as it will be filled with content that is unique and important to our readers,” said interim Publisher Ann Troutman. “Nobody covers the news, sports and community happenings in this region better and more thoroughly than The Mining Journal, and no other entity supports local businesses as we do through effective advertising initiatives. We are excited to take this step in our history.”

The Weekend Edition will have an expanded weekend calendar of events. From church happenings to community arts events, please help us inform our readers about the many wonderful things taking place in and around Marquette. If you would like your event included, please call Managing Editor Bud Sargent at 906-228-2500, ext. 244 or email him at newsroom@miningjournal.net.

The Weekend Edition also will contain all of your favorite Sunday advertising inserts and specials a day earlier, which will allow readers to better plan their weekend shopping trips.

News that happens on Saturday will be available on our website, www.miningjournal.net. Readers looking to stay up on the latest daily headlines and breaking news also can sign up for our online newsletters at our website. All rates for The Mining Journal will remain the same.

Troutman said she is interested in reader feedback on the new Weekend Edition — what you like and additional features you may want to see in the future. She can be reached by calling 906-228-2500 ext. 299 or via email at atroutman@miningjournal.net.
