No injuries reported in Ishpeming house fire

MARQUETTE — The Ishpeming Fire Department responded to a fire at 721 Duncan St. in Ishpeming at 12:21 p.m. Sunday.

No injuries were reported, but both of the homeowners’ cats did not survive the fire.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time, but is not considered suspicious, according to a press release from the Ishpeming Fire Department.

Two residents were at home at the time of the fire. One resident smelled smoke and went outside to check where it was coming from and found smoke and fire inside the garage. The resident then called 911.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the attached garage with fire extending into the house. Fire crews had the flames under control in about 20 minutes, according to the release.

The home and garage sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage. The home was insured.

Assisting were the Negaunee Fire Department, Marquette County 131 Rescue, Upper Peninsula Power Co., Semco Energy Gas Co., Pigs-N-Heat and The American Red Cross.
