Arrest made after armed robbery at Sawyer

MARQUETTE — A K.I. Sawyer man is being held in the Marquette County Jail after an attempted armed robbery Thursday at the Sawyer Village Shoppette in West Branch Township.

Around 6:10 p.m. Thursday, a 20-year-old man entered the shoppette, stole merchandise and attempted to leave the store. When confronted by shoppette staff, the suspect pulled out a knife and then fled on foot. Troopers from the Michigan State Police made contact with a subject in the area who said they saw the suspect go into his residence. Troopers located the suspect, ordered him out of his home and placed him into custody, according to Sgt. Brent Rosten with the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post.

The Forsyth Township Police Department assisted in the investigation.
