Attempted robbery at Marquette credit union

Police: Unarmed woman arrested after she entered credit union, demanded money; no injuries reported

MARQUETTE — A Marquette woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to rob the Marquette Community Federal Credit Union Saturday along West Washington Street, according to the Marquette City Police.

The incident occurred around 9:56 a.m. Saturday, when police were dispatched to the report of an unarmed female subject who entered the credit union and “demanded money,” police said.

The woman, identified as Sharon McNeil, 66, of Marquette, also attempted to take a check and a computer monitor at the time. McNeil was “subdued by a male customer until police arrived,” according to officials.

McNeil was arrested for bank robbery and larceny in a building and was lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

The charges have been authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Marquette City Police were assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Northern Michigan University Public Safety and and Michigan State Police.
