Local communities announce events for Memorial Day

MARQUETTE – Several local communities have announced plans to commemorate Memorial Day:

Gwinn

A Memorial Day parade will take place in Gwinn Monday.

A short ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial in Peter Nordeen Park. The parade will start at 10 a.m. from the park and proceed to the Gwinn Cemetery where a ceremony will take place at approximately 10:45 a.m.

An additional memorial service will be held at Bakkala Cemetery immediately following the first service.

Participants at the parade are invited to lunch at the Gwinn VFW post after the parade.

Ishpeming

Memorial Day services honoring comrades killed in action will be held starting at 10 a.m. Memorial Day at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Various veterans groups and auxiliaries will be participating.

In case of rain, a service will take place at the Ishpeming VFW Post 4573, 310 Bank St.

Marquette

Memorial Day events on Monday in Marquette will include a 9:30 a.m. service at Holy Cross Cemetery and a 10:15 a.m. service at Park Cemetery. Refreshments will be served at American Legion Post 44 following the services.

Negaunee

The Negaunee VFW Post 3165 and Auxiliary have planned the annual Memorial Day parade and services.

The parade will start in downtown Negaunee at 10 a.m. Monday on Gold Street and will continue east on Iron Street north on Pioneer Avenue, east on Main Street, north on McKenzie Avenue, west on Case Street back into the downtown area.

A memorial service will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery immediately following the parade. Another memorial service will be held at Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery following the Negaunee Cemetery service.

The public is encouraged to attend and are also invited to the Negaunee VFW following services for food and refreshments.
