Police are searching for this man

Dennis Frederick Pellinen

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division and Search and Rescue are continuing the search for an Ishpeming man who went snowmobiling near the Delta County line Sunday and has not yet returned, officials said.

Dennis Frederick Pellinen, 54, of Ishpeming was reported missing Monday, as he had not been seen since he left his secondary residence in McFarland around 6 p.m. Sunday on a snowmobile.

Pellinen did not show up for work Monday and was then reported missing around 4:40 p.m. by family members who lived across the street from his secondary residence in McFarland, police said.

Police began the search for Pellinen Monday night, and as of 9 a.m. this morning, they are still looking, officials said.

“We’re back out there now and we’re hoping to find a helicopter to get up in the air to help with the search; that’s in the works,” Marquette County Undersheriff Dan Willey said.

Pellinen was wearing a black Carhart jacket and driving a blue and gray 2003 SRX Yamaha snowmobile. It is believed Pellinen was not wearing a helmet when he left on the snowmobile, police said.

Delta County’s search and rescue unit has also participated in the search, officials said, as the secondary residence in McFarland was near the Delta County line.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on Pellinen’s whereabouts to call Marquette County Central Dispatch at 906-475-9912.
