Appointments, equipment purchases on the agenda

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will consider appointments to the Economic Development Corporation of Marquette County, as well as bids for county equipment and lease renewals.

The board meets at 6 p.m. in room 231 of the Henry A. Skewis Annex in Marquette.

According to a memo from Marquette County Clerk Linda Talsma, Mark Paupore and Amy Clickner are seeking appointment to seats on the Economic Development Corporation of Marquette County, a nine-member body that is responsible for “encouraging the development of our local economy by implementing programs through its director.”

Two of the nine members are county commissioners, who are appointed to one-year terms, while seven of the nine members are appointed to six-year staggered terms for manufacturing; hospitality and retail; medical service, individuals and organizations; financial; utilities and transportation; and developers & construction, the memo states.

Paupore is seeking to be appointed to an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2022, for the developers and construction seat, and Clickner is seeking appointment to an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2023, in hospitality and retail services, Talsma’s memo states. No other applications were received for these positions, according to board documents.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the board will also consider the award of a bid for a runway snow broom at Sawyer International Airport. Five bid packages were opened for the equipment after engineering firm Mead & Hunt prepared documents and advertised for the bids, according to a memo from Duane DuRay, Sawyer airport manager.

Funding for the purchase of the snow broom was approved through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Grant Program, DuRay’s memo states.

At the meeting, the commission will also consider three bids for the replacement of the Marquette County Facilities Department’s maintenance tractor, as the county’s 2018 public improvement budget includes funding to replace the equipment, according to board documents.

The tractor will be used for snow removal and lawn care around the Marquette County Courthouse complex, according to board documents.

The board will also consider an extension of a golf course lease currently held by Gwinn Golf Inc. Gwinn Golf’s current lease on the Red Fox Run Golf Course in Gwinn will expire Dec. 31, according to board documents.

Staff recommendation is for the board to approve an extension of the lease under the proposed terms, board documents state.

The board will also consider a lease renewal from Able Medical Devices, which is seeking to enter a new two-year lease for just over 10,000 square feet in building 627 at Sawyer International Airport. Able Medical Devices is currently on a month-to-month lease, as the lease was reassigned from Frontier Medical Devices.

Staff recommendation is to enter into a lease under the new terms.
