MARQUETTE — A woman’s body was found floating in Munising Bay on Wednesday after personnel from the Alger County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue responded to a 911 call that came in at around 12:35 p.m.

Officials located the woman’s body near the the west side of the bay, according to a release from the sheriff’s department.

The victim was an 81-year-old female who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Police believe the woman had ventured out into Lake Superior for unknown reasons some time after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the release states.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time. Investigators from the Alger County Sheriff’s Department could not be reached for further comment before press time.
